If it were up to Senator Risa Hontiveros, senators planning to seek higher office next year should run under 1Sambayan.
She said this way, the unified opposition slate would have a better chance of beating the administration’s bets for president and vice president.
Hontiveros confirmed to Politiskoop that she has spoken to some of her colleagues in the Senate about this, particularly those rumored to be eyeing the presidency.
“Yung ilan sa kanila, kinausap na nga tungkol diyan, yung ideyang gan’on,” she said.
“Bukas naman. So I’m hopeful. Hindi siya madaling gawin pero I’m hopeful,” she added when asked how the senators reacted to her proposal.
There are talks of Senator Ping Lacson teaming up with Senate President Tito Sotto for a possible tandem in 2022. Senator Manny Pacquiao is also rumored to be eyeing the presidency.
1Sambayan is a coalition formed by pro-democracy personalities. It seeks to field a unified opposition slate for next year’s polls.
Hontiveros’ group Akbayan is part of the coalition.
