Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said no foul play has so far been found in the deaths of high-profile inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City since the country experienced the COVID-19 virus pandemic last year.
Guevarra said this was determined by the probe conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over the deaths of high-profile persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Bilibid including that of late former Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez.
“The NBI has not found any evidence so far that any foul play was involved in the deaths of certain high-profile PDLs, including former mayor Sanchez of Calauan,” he said.
Sanchez died last March 27 when he was found unresponsive inside his cell by inmates.
Also, last February19, high-profile convicted carjacker Raymond Dominguez also died from natural causes despite claims from his family that there were threats against him.
In 2020, there were several high-profile inmates who passed away including convicted kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian who is one of the witnesses in the drug charges against detained Senator Leila De Lima.
