Retired Supreme Court (SC) Justice Arturo Brion has been appointed by the high tribunal as the next chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA).
SC Clerk of Court Marife Lomibao-Cuevas has issued a notice informing the public that the SC issued a resolution dated May 11 concerning the appointment of Brion.
“The Court Resolved to appoint Justice Arturo D. Brion (Ret.) as Chancellor of the Philippine Judicial Academy, effective upon the expiration of the term of Chancellor Adolfo S. Azcuna on May 31, 2021,” read the resolution.
Brion, who once served as labor secretary, has been a magistrate of the SC from 2008 until he retired in 2016.
Azcuna, who had been presidential spokesperson under the administration of late President Corazon Aquino, is also a retired magistrate of the SC and has served at the high tribunal from 2002 to 2009.
