Erin Tañada proud to call Aquino ‘Mr. President’

More tributes are flowing in for the late President Benigno Aquino III.

Among the allies grateful for PNoy’s service to the country is former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada. Aquino and Tañada were batchmates in Congress years ago.

In a series of tweets, the former legislator paid tribute to PNoy as he remembered the close ties between the Aquino and Tañada families. He shared some throwback photos, including a snapshot of his family with the former leader in Malacañang.

“Seldom do you get the opportunity to have the whole family together for a picture with the person we are proud to call Mr. President. From our family Mr. President we want to Thank You for your service!” he said.

“Rest Easy and In Peace in the Presence of God!#ThankYouPNoy #SalamatPNoy,” he said.

Aquino died on June 24 after suffering renal disease arising from diabetes. The former president, who served the country from 2010 to 2016, was 61.

Tañada was crestfallen when he learned about Aquino’s passing last Thursday.

“I have been shedding tears since I first tweeted,” he said in a tweet the day Aquino died.

He also wrote about the family connection with the Aquinos and his political alliance with PNoy. He said his family “campaigned hard” for Aquino in his home province when he ran for senator and president.

“The Aquinos and Tañada families will forever be intertwined from the time of PNoy’s grandfather to Sen Ninoy to Pres Cory and to PNoy. We marched together. We served together in the House before he became a Senator,” he said.
