Recto doubts Duterte’s VP bid in 2022 polls

Senator Ralph Recto believes that President Rodrigo Duterte will not run for vice president in the 2022 national elections.

Recto explained that the high chance of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte running for president in the next elections makes it unlikely for the president to run as vice president.

Rumors of the Duterte-Duterte presidential and vice presidential tandem have been in the air for quite some time but both camps have not confirmed its likelihood.

“Hindi ko nakikitang mangyayari yun. I could be wrong,” Recto said during Abante’s Balitaan at Kumustahan on Friday.

“Dahil naging pangulo na siya eh. So sa tingin ko, ako personal opinion ko, I don’t believe na tatakbo siyang pagka-bise pangulo. Pero kung gusto niyang tumakbong bise pangulo, that is up to him,” he added.

On the other hand, in his point of view as a lawmaker, Recto said that President Duterte’s plan to run for vice president is not against the constitution since it only forbids a president to run once more for the same position.

Recto also said he is sure that someone will file in the Supreme Court in line with the President’s vice presidential bid.

“That will be decided by the court, by the Supreme Court, in the event na he does decide to run for vice president. Sigurado yan, may magfa-file diyan sa Supreme Court,” he explained.
