Calls are growing on social media not to vote Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo for senator in 2022 over his failure to apologize for red tagging Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
Panelo on Tuesday (July 27) denied saying in 2019 that Diaz was part of an alleged ouster plot against President Rodrigo Duterte, even though transcripts and news reports show otherwise.
In a statement, Panelo blamed the media for reporting that Diaz was involved in a supposed destabilization plot because she was in the matrix he presented when he was presidential spokesperson.
“In sum, there has been a wrong analysis of the diagram by some media outfits which in turn made the basis of a wrong analysis and conclusions by readers and personalities including Misses Ho and Diaz,” he said.
Panelo’s refusal to take accountability for his statement angered netizens, who said he doesn’t deserve a Senate seat.
“Ulyanin na tapos gusto pang tumakbong senator?. Jusko, pahinga ka na lang po,” tweeted @G1290411949.
“NO to butiki in 2022,” said @The_CorpSlave.
“Let’s avenge Hidilyn Diaz. Don’t vote for Sal Panelo in next year’s election,” @dregzgonzales tweeted.
“I dont think anyone (except) dds and trolls after what he did to leni, hidilyn, gretchen, etc not to forget how he treats the public,” said @ifer_96.
“Walang boboto nyan sa kanya.. Ang boboto sa kanya mga.butiki!” tweeted @RaymondDeSilva1.
