President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday asked senators not to investigate ongoing programs of the government to avoid delays in project completion.
Duterte made the statement amid Senate hearings on the management of Covid-19 pandemic response funds by the Department of Health (DOH) and other agencies.
“I’d like to address myself to everybody, to the senators especially… do not investigate programs which are ongoing,” the Chief Executive said.
“You will derail it, you will delay it by your incessant penchant for investigating government offices. Gusto ninyo lahat pakialaman na lang. You do not run this government alone by questioning the unspent amount,” he added.
Duterte previously told the Commission on Audit (COA) to give the government “enough elbow room” to comply with its recommendations, citing the health crisis.
This came after COA reported “deficiencies” of about P67.73 billion in the DOH’s Covid-19 response funds.
