President Duterte is looking into the proposal to defer the increase in the contributions of Social Security System (SSS) members as the country continues to grapple with the pandemic.
The President will take into consideration the financial viability of SSS, weak business activity and pandemic-hit employment before making a decision soon, his spokesman Harry Roque said.
“Pinag-aaralan ‘yan ng Office of the President. Mayroon na sinubmit na rekomendasyon ang SSS,” Roque said during a virtual presser.
“Ang tinitignan po natin, ‘yung financial viability ng SSS, at the same time, ‘yung kahinaan ng negosyo at ng hanapbuhay sa kabila po ng pandemya. So asahan po natin ang desisyon sa lalong mabilis na panahon,” he said.
Last May, Duterte signed a law that gives the President the authority to suspend increases in SSS contributions to during a state of calamity. The country remains under state of calamity until Sept. 12, 2022 to mobilize government resources and funds to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
