2022 hopefuls urged to lead by example in fight vs Covid-19

By Prince Golez

Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya on Monday urged candidates running for elective posts in the May 2022 elections to set an example for the public on how to protect themselves from Covid-19.

As the election season officially started in the country, Malaya reminded Filipinos to avoid super-spreader events that involve mass gatherings to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“Bawal ang super spreader events. So, ang paalala ng DILG sa ating mga kumakandidato dito sa ating Eleksyong 2022 ay dapat maging ehemplo sila ng ating mga kababayan dahil hindi pa rin tapos ang pandemya,” the official said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Since tayo ay nakikipaglaban pa rin sa Covid-19, dapat iwasan natin ang lahat ng mga super spreader events kahit saan man sa ating bansa,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malaya said the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will soon release the guidelines on how to safely conduct campaign activities.

“Yan po ang pag-uusapan namin with the Comelec kasi this is part and parcel of the election process. We will have to coordinate with them para makapaglabas tayo ng guidelines,” according to him.
