Robredo ‘in trouble’: VP doesn’t really want to run for president; Courtship of Duterte enablers erodes her credibility — Walden Bello

Vice President Leni Robredo is “in trouble,” former Akbayan Rep. Walden Bello said after questioning her action ahead of the 2022 elections.

In a Facebook post, Bello talked about the erosion of Robredo’s credibility after she held coalition talks with allies of President Duterte. He noticed Robredo is not interested in running for president after courting Duterte’s allies and enablers.

“WHAT DOES LENI REALLY WANT? The problem with Leni is she does not really want to run for president, and her overtures to Pacquiao, Domagoso, and Lacson are really efforts to have them run in her stead for president, with her willing to take the vice presidential spot,” Bello said on Facebook.

“This courtship of former Duterte allies and enablers is unfortunately destroying her credibility,” he said.

Bello is also dismayed that Robredo spurned forces on the left while she sought to court the right. The veep has refused to meet with Laban ng Masa despite its request for a meeting for three months to discuss possibilities in the 2022 polls.

When the group endorses Leody de Guzman as presidential candidate, Bello said Robredo’s camp alleged that they were “dividing the opposition.”

“What nerve–these jokers don’t even want to stoop down and talk to us! If you don’t know who your friends and who your enemies are, you are in trouble, Ms. Vice President,” he said.

Robredo has been coy about her political plans in 2022 while some supporters appeared to grow impatient with her indecision. The leader of the opposition is supposedly open to running for president or a local post in the elections. She held talks with some presidential contenders for a united opposition but such effort has so far failed.
