What’s next after monitoring? Guevarra to keep close tabs on cops’ drug war violations

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra has vowed to keep a close watch over around 100 cases concerning violations committed by law enforcement officers during anti-legal drugs operations.

“The DOJ will also focus attention on the nearly 100 cases across the country which are either pending preliminary investigation or court trial, involving law enforcement agents charged with or accused of violating the law in connection with the war on drugs,” he said.

“We may engage the CHR (Commission on Human Rights) in this next phase of the work of the drug review panel,” he added.

The DOJ has already finished conducting a review of 52 cases of killings that have taken place during anti-illegal drugs operations.

The report on the review has already been submitted to Malacanang and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
