Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Monday (Oct. 4) Julian Ongpin, the son of business tycoon Roberto Ongpin, has been summoned by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to shed light over the death of Filipina painter Bree Jonson.
“Julian Ongpin himself was subpoenaed by the NBI to appear on October 6 and give his own statement re death of Bree Jonson,” the secretary revealed.
Guevarra had earlier ordered the NBI to conduct an investigation of the case.
Ongpin is facing a complaint for possession of illegal drugs after 12.6 grams of cocaine were found last Sept. 18 inside the hotel room in San Juan, La Union where he and Jonson had been staying.
Jonson was found unconscious at that time and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The Jonson family has already expressed suspicion that Ongpin had something to do with her death.
Guevarra said the NBI has already conducted an autopsy of the remains of Jonson and taken the testimonies of persons who were last with the couple.
