Presidential aspirant and Senator Manny Pacquiao on Sunday expressed alarm over the water cannon attack by the Chinese Coast Guard against Filipino fishermen near Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.
“This incident is certainly a cause of deep concern,” he said.
“Ayungin shoal is part of our country’s exclusive economic zone and our continental shelf. This assault against our fishermen is a clear act of bullying and brinkmanship that must be condemned by all nations,” Pacquiao said.
“This is a violation to UNCLOS to which China is a signatory,” he said, referring to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
“I urge China to immediately stop this aggressive and provocative actions and pursue cooperative undertakings that are beneficial to all,” Pacquiao said.
