Duque wants Metro Manila to remain under Alert Level 2 until end of month

Metro Manila should remain under Covid-19 Alert Level 2 until December 31 amid the threat posed by the new omicron

variant, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.

“Para sa akin dapat siguro tama lang manatili muna tayo Alert Level 2,” DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III said during a Laging Handa public briefing.

Alert Level 2 is the second-lowest in the five-tier alert level system of Covid-19 protocols.

Duque cited the increased mobility and the omicron threat among the reasons why the capital region should not downgrade to the most lenient Coviud-19 alert level.

“Unang-una, ang mobility tataas naman ngayong kapaskuhan at merong nagbabadyang o banta ng omicron variant,” he said.

The World Health Organization has classified omicron, which has been detected in 38 countries, as a highly transmissible virus of concern but advised people not to panic about it.
