Government pushes 14-day lockdown in barangays: ‘Di sapat ang 2 to 3 days’

By Prince Golez

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Sunday urged local government units (LGUs) to implement longer localized quarantine in their areas.

In an interview over GMA-7’s Dobol B sa News TV, Nograles, also the co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, said that LGUs should enforce a 14-day long lockdown, noting that the incubation period of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) lasts up to two weeks.

“Sinasabi namin sa mga mayor na kung mag community quarantine ka dun sa barangay mo, hindi pupuwede sapat yung 2 days, 3 days or 5 days na quarantine. Kailangan mag-14 days quarantine ka,” according to him.

“Tulad ng ginagawa namin sa IATF, ang ginagawa namin sa IATF, ung mapansin nyo, every 15th and 30th kami nagbibigay ng community quarantine level sa iba’t ibang mga lugar sa Pilipinas. So, ganoon din pagdating sa localized lockdown,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nograles reminded everyone to constantly practicing minimum health standards to stem the pandemic of Covid-19.

“Whether (general community quarantine) ka or (modified general community quarantine) ka, nandiyan pa rin ‘yung virus. Kaya kailangan laging mag-ingat. So, paulit-ulit natin sinasabi sa ating kababayan na ‘wag tayo kampante, nandiyan pa rin ang virus na yan,” he stressed.
